Today in class we did the following:

□ 1. Vocabulary words 11 - 20

□ 2. RWN page 318, Read story

□ 3. Homework: Vocabulary words 11 – 20 x 3, defs x 1, 5 sentences using a vocabulary word


11.       wildfire: a large, uncontrolled fire in a natural area

12.       ground crew: a team of people working on the ground, especially in emergencies

13.       slope: a surface that is slanted, not flat

14.       blaze: a large, strong fire

15.       destructive: causing a lot of damage

16.       threaten: to be a danger to something or someone

17.       firebreak: a gap created to stop or slow the spread of a fire

18.       barrier: something that blocks or prevents movement

19.     tinderbox: something that can catch fire easily

20.      flame: the bright, burning gas you see in a fire

In order to assist students with the problem-solution essay, I have provided them with the following sentences. Students are supposed to explain the problem and solution in writing. Problem Taiwan once had a massive garbage problem. It’s former nickname was “Garbage Island” due to the amount of trash that would litter its streets. Identify cause From the 1950’s onward, Taiwan became a very wealthy country. As people became wealthier, the amount of trash they generated grew.
